Please note: The Mall entrance to the Smithsonian Metro station closes at 10 p.m. The other entrance, at Independence Avenue and 12th Street, S.W., closes at midnight (closes at 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays), as do the Gallery Place and Federal Triangle stations. To be sure not to miss the last train to your destination, call Metro at 202-637-7000 for schedules.

Parking Options

Parking for Resident Associate Program events, although limited, is available at meters. Metered parking in D.C. now includes Saturdays and the hours of enforcement have been extended to 10 p.m. The cost is $2 per hour in many areas, including the streets near the National Mall. (No meters are being added to Jefferson Drive or Madison Drive on the Mall.)

Parking is also available at parking garages for special events, parking may be available at the west parking lot of the National Museum of Natural History.

Colonial Parking Garages offer $5 parking to RAP members on weekday evenings after 5:30 pm and all day on Saturday and Sunday at three locations. Be sure to have your RAP membership card and event ticket with you. Please note parking times and limits when attending events.

Member Parking for Weekend Bus Tours
For Smithsonian Resident Associate Members Only

Daytime Bus Tours on Weekends:

Weekend day bus tours depart from the Holiday Inn Capitol at 550 C Street, SW

There is a Colonial Parking lot at the Holiday Inn Capitol (550 C St. SW), accessed from 6th Street. The fee is $5 with a Resident Associate event ticket stub; be sure to read the signs posted in the garage. Tentative parking and departure locations for specific tours are provided on the ticket and may be confirmed several days prior to each tour by calling the tour information line, 202-633-8687, and selecting menu item 2.

Overnight Bus Tours on Weekends:

Parking at the Smithsonian is usually provided, on a space-available basis, for Resident Associate members on weekend overnight tours. The location of such parking and nearby pickup stops is included in the special information mailed two weeks prior to each overnight tour. Please do not block other cars.

Weekend overnight tours now usually depart from the Constitution Avenue entrance of American History.

Weekday Tours continue to depart from the DeSales St. side of the Mayflower Hotel, 1127 Connecticut Ave., NW
