Marty Kaplan

biography
Marty Kaplan was teaching music in a small town in upstate New York and became friendly with the school photographer. He knew of Marty’s interest in photography and asked him to photograph a wedding. Marty purchased a Hasselblad Camera and after some training, photographed his first wedding. He joined the local photographic society and started taking photo classes at the Rochester Institute of Technology with the top professional photographers. He opened his first studio in Cuba, NY, while still teaching music. A few years, he gave up teaching and opened his second studio in the Monroe Muffler Building in Olean, NY. During that time he received many awards for his photographs, including the prestigious Loan Collection honor from the Professional Photographers of America. At that time he started teaching evening photography classes in his studio.
Marty moved to Northern Virginia to be closer to family and opened a studio in the Mclean Professional Park. At that time he started teaching evening photography classes at the McLean Community, the Torpedo Factory, the Arlington Arts Center and the Smithsonian Institution. Additionally, he became involved with Channel 10, a cable access TV station and produced a TV program called “All things Photographic”. At the present time he has a home studio and specializes in “On Location Photography”. His website is www.kaplanphotography.com.
Teaching Philosophy
Students should have fun learning and taking photographs. I utilize a hands-on approach which enables students to reach their creative potential.
