The very website you are visiting! Established over 30 years ago as the
membership, cultural, and educational arm of the Smithsonian Institution,
this program is recognized as the world's largest and most esteemed museum-based
continuing education and study tour program.
KITE FESTIVAL
Founded by aviation pioneer Paul E. Garber (1899-1992), the festival, one of the kite world's premier events, is sponsored by The Smithsonian Associates and the National Air and Space Museum, and features kite fliers from across the U.S. and the world.
DISCOVERY THEATER
The Smithsonian's Discovery Theater, located in the S. Dillon Ripley Center on the National Mall, is dedicated to offering the best in live performing arts for young people.
VOICES OF DISCOVERY
This program enables Smithsonian scholars to travel to cities around the country to make presentations at a wide variety of local cultural, educational, and civic institutions on subjects relating to their research that are selected by the participating groups
SMITHSONIAN SCHOLARS IN THE SCHOOLS
Outstanding scholars from the Smithsonian research and curatorial staff visit schools to conduct presentations for school-age children across the nation. This gets the Institution's world-renowned scholars and researchers out of "the nation's attic" and into local communities.
