This evening, venture inside one of the best and most
ambitious anti-terror operations in the country—the intelligence
operation of the New York Police Department, with undercover
resources all over the world and an intelligence unit
that includes more than 500 officers and analysts. It has
officers stationed in major cities worldwide to report on
terrorism abroad and to stop terrorism at home. Taking us
inside the operation is author Christopher Dickey, whose
popular column “Shadowland” about counterterrorism and
espionage appears weekly on Newsweek Online.
Drawing on information obtained from access to New York
City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and other top officials,
Dickey takes us into the secret
command center of the NYPD’s
counterterrorism division to examine
the strategies and tactical operations
that the NYPD has implemented to
keep New York from experiencing
another terrorist operation. He also
details the shadow battles fought in
cities around the globe to stop that
war before it begins.
Dickey is the Paris bureau chief
and Middle East regional editor for
Newsweek magazine. His book Securing the City (Simon &
Schuster) is available for signing after the program.
