Craft is alive and well. Evidence of this can be seen at the 27th annual Smithsonian Craft Show, which features the work of stellar contemporary
American craft artists. The show promises to engage budding collectors and connoisseurs alike.
This lecture complements the show and is designed to provide insight into the work of the chosen artisans. Using examples from the works in the show, Melissa G. Post examines ceramics, fiber, glass, jewelry, metal, wood, and wearable art, and discusses the qualities to look for and
the criteria to apply when evaluating and selecting an object.
Post is a curator at the Museum of Glass, Tacoma, Washington, and a former curator of the Mint Museum of Craft + Design.
