Curtis Roosevelt is highly regarded for
his long career with the United Nations
Secretariat. He is also the oldest grandson
of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt.
As a child, Roosevelt lived in the White
House for 12 years along with his older
sister Eleanor. Known in the press as “Sistie and Buzzie,” they
were firsthand observers of history. Roosevelt offers his recollections
of those years, including the personal relationship
between Winston Churchill and FDR and how influential it
was in shaping the Allies’ policy during World War II.
He also offers his views on how the Great Depression can
be compared to the current recession, the similarities and differences
between his grandmother Eleanor and First Lady
Michelle Obama, and how spending his formative years in the
spotlight affected the rest of his life for both good and bad.
Roosevelt is considered the family historian by the
Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library in Hyde Park, New
York. His book Too Close to the Sun: Growing Up in the
Shadow of My Grandparents, Franklin and Eleanor (Public
Affairs) is available for signing after the program.
