What are the major questions and issues that face Islam in the 21st century? How will they affect global politics? Will East and West deadlock on issues such as democracy and religious fundamentalism? Will Islamic culture affect Western societies? Tonight, John Esposito, one of America’s leading authorities on Islam, offers an accurate, richly nuanced, and revelatory account of the fastest-growing religion in the world and discusses the challenges facing both Islam and the West in the coming century.

Esposito is a professor of religion and international affairs, Georgetown University, and founding director of the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim- Christian Understanding.

His book The Future of Islam (Oxford University Press) is available for signing after the program.
