PLEASE NOTE LOCATION CHANGE: This tour now departs from the Holiday Inn Capitol at 550 C Street, S.W.
Refine your knowledge of craft as art by visiting three award-winning artists from previous Smithsonian Craft Shows. The show is considered the premier juried show and sale of fine craft art in the country. Collectors from all over the world come for this opportunity to see the best of the best and rising new artists. In advance of this year’s show, we visit three artists in the Washington, D.C., area: Machiko Shishido (porcelain), Nebiur Arellano (silk painting), and Namu Cho (jewelry).
Shishido’s bowls are functional, wheelthrown, and made of translucent porcelain with celadon glaze and are influenced by her other life as a concert pianist. Arellano melds the tools and materials familiar to silk painting with colors and design reflecting her Peruvian roots. Cho uses the ancient techniques of Damascus steel and Damascene in his work. He makes exquisite jewelry designs from gold, silver, platinum, and steel.
Enjoy lunch at Evo Bistro. Included in the tour is a general admission ticket to the Smithsonian Craft Show, April 21-25.
