In this special evening, former First Lady Laura Bush is interviewed by Cokie Roberts, political analyst for ABC News and NPR. The interview covers the higlights of her life and her remarkable years in the White House and beyond.
Laura Bush grew up amid the rugged oil boom-and-bust culture of Midland, Texas, and worked as an inner-city school teacher and librarian before marrying George W. Bush. On Sept. 10, 2001, she was widely known as the founder of the Texas and National book festivals. The events of 9-11 and the frantic and fearful months that followed changed her life and her world. A transformational first lady, Mrs. Bush championed women's rights around the globe, traveling to 75 countries, including three visits to Afghanistan and five to Africa, as well as to the Burmese border to advocate for tens of thousands of refugees.
Participants will hear the fascinating story of her unique path from dusty Midland to the world stage.
Mrs. Bush's new book, Spoken from the Heart (Scribner), is available after the program.
