Originally used in Greek, Roman, and African art, mosaics are as popular today as they were thousands of years ago. In this workshop, discover the modern-day beauty of this ancient technique and learn how to create mosaics of your own. Remember that chipped pot, broken china dish, and shattered glass bowl? Save the fragments to create one-of-akind mosaics that have more sentimental value than the original objects. Even stones from your yard can be incorporated.
Instructor Alfredo Ratinoff guides you through the mosaic-making process, from the initial design to the final grouting and assemblage of the works. Each student creates two wall pieces, using different techniques and very few tools.
A list of supplies is mailed prior to the first session. Some supplies are provided.
Ratinoff specializes in one-of-a-kind pottery pieces, sculpture, and large-scale tile murals. He exhibits widely, and his work is in many public and private collections.
