An Anecdotal History of Capitol Hill
Walking Tour
Saturday, October 2 - 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

This tour is also available on:

Today they are the House and Senate office buildings, Supreme Court, and Library of Congress, but the structures surrounding the U.S. Capitol hum with history. Walk around the outside of the U.S. Capitol, passing in front of the House and Senate office buildings, Madison and Jefferson buildings of the Library of Congress, and Supreme Court. Amusing, informative, sad, and dramatic tales look back at historic events on these sites, including ferocious congressional opposition to a foreigner’s bequest to found the Smithsonian Institution; the burning of the Capitol by British troops in 1814; a public hanging of the notorious commandant of a Confederate prisoner-of-war camp; a peek at congressional traditions and shenanigans; and the thrill of the hunt for old diaries and letters in the bowels of the Library of Congress. Historian and author Anthony S. Pitch leads this tour.

Meet outside the Capitol South Metro (Blue/Orange lines), 1st and C Sts., S.E. No infants, children, or pets.
