Come to the recently reopened American Wing of the Met and
understand why stained glass truly is “painting with light” and
architecture is “music frozen in time.” Glass and architecture
are major highlights of the renovated wing. The building itself,
using clear glass for walls, parapets, and elevator, is home to
the now-integrated collection of American decorative arts and
draws you in for a closer examination.
Studying glass and architecture, two guided tours focus on
the Met’s extensive collection of Tiffany and other glass, incorporated
architectural elements, and the 19 installed period
rooms dating from the late 17th to the early 20th century,
many of which have been refurbished and reinterpreted.
Sheila Pinsker, museum education consultant, and Bill Keene,
architectural and urban studies educator, lead the tour. There
will be free time to wander through the myriad collections.
Included are a catered box lunch en route to New York and a
three-course dinner at the Brass Rail restaurant in New Jersey.
