 PROGRAM DETAILS

Jane Austen published only four books during her lifetime, yet today there are several hundred published works that have used her characters, novels, and biography as inspiration.

Sequels, prequels, and reinventions have been written for nearly every one of Austen’s published works. New to the list is the addition of the “monster mash-up”: adding zombies, vampires, and even sea monsters to classic Austen texts. Is this trend helpful or hurtful to Jane Austen’s legacy?

In this evening’s panel discussion, moderated by Bethanne Patrick of WETA's the Book Studio, Austen scholar Tara Wallace joins authors Seth Grahame-Smith, Ben H. Winters, and Regina Jeffers, as they talk about Austen the author and why her works have endured and inspired through the years.
